India already has excellent legal journalism — LiveLaw, Bar and Bench, LawBeat, Legally India, and others cover the courts with speed and rigour. We start with respect for that work and a clear sense of why we are here: to report the Indian legal landscape accurately, to explain it clearly, and to do both under our own name, with sources anyone can check.
A word about what we are, because our domain name invites a fair question. LitigationLawyer.in is a publication, not a law firm. We do not offer representation, we do not give legal advice, and we do not solicit clients for anyone. Our editorial team works as journalists and researchers. If you take one thing from this first letter, let it be that distinction — we have set it out in full in our BCI Compliance Notice, and you will see it stated plainly on every page. It matters to us because getting it wrong would be both a disservice to readers and a compliance failure in a regulated space.
Our early work is deliberately weighted toward legal education — guides to how the Supreme Court works, what the Constitution protects, how a writ petition or a civil suit actually moves — because durable understanding is the foundation on which good court coverage rests. Judgment coverage, done properly, is demanding: it requires verified case names, benches, citations, and dates, and the discipline to report what a court held rather than what a headline wishes it had. We would rather build that capability honestly than fake it, so our court coverage will grow as our named editorial team and contributors do.
